What data we use

  • US — Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment Statistics (OES). Real, updated annually.
  • India — NCO code aligned salary estimates from public reports (PayScale, Ambition Box, Glassdoor aggregated) — India government doesn't publish OES-equivalent data at the same resolution.
  • UK — Office for National Statistics ASHE (Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings).

For every career you get median, p10 (bottom 10% earners), and p90 (top 10% earners). The spread matters — a career with median $80K but p10 $30K and p90 $250K is 'lottery-shape' and behaves very differently from a career with median $80K and p10 $65K to p90 $120K.

Beyond just the number

Salary in isolation is a bad career signal. Our tool contextualises with:

  • Salary consistency — is this a stable-pay career or a lottery-shape one?
  • Growth outlook — is the field growing or shrinking?
  • Education ROI — how many years of school + how much do those years cost vs the salary lift?
  • AI exposure — how much of this job is likely to be automated in the next 5-10 years?
  • Employment volume — how many people actually hold this role in your country?

Frequently asked questions

Are the India numbers reliable?

Directionally yes; precisely less so. India doesn't have a BLS-equivalent single source of salary truth. We aggregate from PayScale + Glassdoor + Ambition Box + industry reports. Use as a range, not a fixed number.

How often is the data updated?

BLS data annually (when they publish). India data recalibrated quarterly. UK data annually.
