The Bachelor of Commerce is one of India's most widely taken degrees. It gives a foundation in accounting, business law, economics, taxation and finance, and leaves room for a specialisation such as banking, insurance or international business in later semesters.
A plain B.Com on its own rarely sets a graduate apart, because so many people hold one. It becomes far more valuable when combined with CA, CMA, CS, CFA, an MBA or strong practical skills in spreadsheets and analytics. It suits students who like structured subjects and want to keep options open across finance, banking, tax, government exams and business roles.

Routes in the US and UK
United States
The US has no B.Com; the nearest equivalent is a four-year Bachelor of Science or BBA in business with a concentration in accounting or finance. Indian three-year B.Com holders often need a master's or a credential evaluation to be treated as equivalent to a US bachelor's.
United Kingdom
In the UK the same ground is covered by three-year BSc or BA degrees in Accounting and Finance, Business Management or Economics. Accredited programmes give exemptions from ACCA, ICAEW or CIMA papers.

Frequently asked questions
B.Com or BBA — which should I pick?
B.Com is heavier on accounting, tax and law, which suits finance and professional qualifications like CA. BBA leans towards management, marketing and case studies, and suits people heading for an MBA or general business roles.
Can a science student take B.Com?
Usually yes. Many colleges accept science students, and some prefer those with mathematics. You may have to pick up basic accountancy quickly in the first semester.
Is a three-year B.Com accepted for a master's abroad?
UK and many European universities accept it directly. Some US universities want sixteen years of education, so you may need a one-year bridge, an M.Com or a university that accepts three-year degrees.
