Science (PCMB)

Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology

PCMB means taking Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology together. It is the one science combination that keeps both the engineering exams and NEET open until the end of Class 12, at the cost of carrying four science subjects at once.

Subjects

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • Biology
  • English

Common routes

Keeps open
  • Everything from PCM AND PCB
  • Engineering (all branches)
  • Medicine (MBBS/BDS)
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Bioinformatics
  • Biostatistics
  • Pharmaceutical Engineering
  • Agricultural Engineering
Closes or makes harder
  • Very few doors close — the broadest science combination
  • Note: Workload is significantly higher with 4 science subjects

These are the routes our Stream Picker shows for this stream. Exact subject rules differ by university and year — check each course's bulletin.

Entrance exams you can sit

  • NEET (UG) — MBBS, BDS, AYUSH (BAMS/BSMS/BUMS/BHMS), some B.Sc Nursing and veterinary seats [Source]
  • JEE Main (B.E./B.Tech) — B.E./B.Tech at NITs, IIITs and other central institutes; qualifying exam for JEE Advanced [Source]
  • JEE Main Paper 2A (B.Arch) — B.Arch at NITs, SPAs and other central institutes [Source]
  • JEE Advanced — B.Tech and integrated programmes at the IITs [Source]
  • NATA — B.Arch at most architecture colleges [Source]
  • CUET (UG) (open to any stream) — UG admission at central universities (e.g. Delhi University) and many state and private universities [Source]
  • CUET (ICAR-UG) — B.Sc Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Agricultural Engineering and allied degrees at agricultural universities [Source]
  • CLAT (UG) (open to any stream) — 5-year integrated law (B.A. LLB etc.) at National Law Universities [Source]
  • NDA & NA (open to any stream) — Officer training for the Army, Navy and Air Force [Source]
  • IPMAT (IIM Indore) (open to any stream) — 5-year integrated BBA + MBA at IIM Indore [Source]
  • BITSAT — B.E., B.Pharm and M.Sc at BITS Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad [Source]
  • NCHM JEE (open to any stream) — B.Sc Hospitality and Hotel Administration at IHMs [Source]
  • NIFT (B.Des / B.F.Tech) (open to any stream) — B.Des and B.F.Tech at NIFT campuses [Source]
  • NID DAT (B.Des) (open to any stream) — B.Des at NID Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bengaluru (Prelims shared with other NIDs) [Source]
  • CA Foundation (open to any stream) — CA Intermediate and then Chartered Accountancy [Source]

"Open to any stream" means the bulletin lets any stream sit the exam; a particular programme can still need a subject — for example the NDA's Air Force and Navy wings need Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and NIFT's B.F.Tech needs Mathematics.
